You might think you know your way around a computer. But after you learn about some useful and little-known tech tricks, you’ll suddenly realize that you’ve been missing out. These tech tricks aren’t going to turn you into a computer whiz, but they will make your computing tasks more enjoyable and faster.

These tricks might even impress your friends and boost your reputation at the office. So if you’re interested in learning more, then keep on reading and we’ll walk you through everything you’ll want to know!

1. Put Your USB Drive in the Right Way the First Time

It might seem so easy to plug a USB cable in the right way. However, practically everyone seems to plug it in the wrong way half of the time.

So how can you get it right the first time, every time? Look at any USB drive and you’ll see the USB symbol on one side.

That symbol isn’t just placed there randomly. Whenever you plug a USB drive into your computer, you just need to make sure that the USB symbol is facing you. Do that and you’ll be plugging in thumb drives with ease from now on.

2. Share a YouTube Video at an Exact Point

If you find something at a certain point in a Youtube video, you can get a link that will take a person right to that moment. This way, you don’t have to send a person a link to the video and then direct them to click a certain point in the timeline. This all takes a lot of the guesswork out of it.

First, just click the share button below the YouTube video. Look for a checkbox under the link. It’ll automatically show the time at which you currently have the video stopped.

You can stay with this start time or pick a different time. Then, copy the link and email it to a friend or share it on your social media. When someone clicks to view the link, the YouTube video is going to automatically start at the time you selected.

3. Crop a Screenshot

Many computer users already feel pretty smart when they know how to capture a screenshot. However, there’s a good chance that you’re capturing more than you want.

Revealing too much of your screen in a single photo might not just be annoying, it could even threaten your computer’s security. Instead, you can take a screenshot with precise cropping, so that you only include what you want to include.

On a Windows computer, go to Start and type Snipping Tool into the Search Bar. This is going to give you a similar box which you drag to any shape over the screen.

With a Mac computer, press Command + Shift + 5. A rectangle will then emerge. You can now manipulate it as much as you’d like.

4. Search WhatsApp Chats

Messages can really add up over time, no matter what application you’re using. If you’re trying to find an important street address or a hilarious meme, it can be frustrating to look through all of your old texts.

If you have the very popular app WhatsApp, then you can get around this problem by searching the app just like you would with something like Google.

For Android, there’s a search icon. If you have an iPhone, you can use the app’s search bar. Either way, you just need to type in words that are specific to that message and all of your possible options will then show up.

5. Unsend an Email

Have you ever sent an email out for work but realized that you sent it to the wrong person? Or you include incorrect information? If so, Gmail now gives you the option to unsend your emails.

You can do this by adjusting your settings.

First, open your settings in Gmail and go to the Undo Send section. The default time is going to be for five seconds but you can change that. We recommend that you make it thirty seconds so that you’ll have a good amount of time to change your mind after hitting send.

After you’ve made your adjustment, go down the page and click Save Changes so that it can take effect. And that’s it.

Now, after you send an email, that message is going to hang in email purgatory for thirty seconds before you decide to pull it back or allow it to go to the person it’s addressed to.

6. Make a GIF

First off, it’s important to understand that it’s pronounced “Jif,” with a soft G. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s go over how to make gifs. This will help you communicate with your friends in new and fun ways.

One common way is to go to a GIF maker site. Then, add the link to a video. Find the part of the video you want to capture, select a length of time, and then hit Upload.
